Who's Going to Prioritize |
Vol. 3, Issue 72, February 23, 2010
Time for an update, Ladies!
It's been a while. The last time I stopped to send a juicy update was around Christmas time. While we still mysteriously keep getting sign ups for our Christmas Cookie Countdown, the season has definitely passed. Love is in the air now, and soon spring will follow.
Last weekend I went skating along a 10km river here in Quebec and it was magnificent. Thousands of people come every weekend just to skate outside, but last weekend was particularly special, because they had the North American Speed Skating Championships. I enrolled in the 10km race and was delighted when I was awarded the bronze medal. (I probably should mention the fact that I was third place out of three participants in my age category.) ;-)
It's so important to take the time to get outside and play, move, BE with life. I really appreciate every moment I get right now, as so much of my attention has been going into the preparation of WISH, which is now less than two short weeks away.
WISH: Women's International Summit for Health
Since the idea sprouted up in the cluttered recesses of my multi-tasking mind last year, I knew wish summit for womenthis was going to be something special. I have an ever-present ache within me. You probably have one, too. The kind of ache that drives you to do whatever you can to make the world a better place. Sounds lofty, but if you've got the same ache, you know what I mean.
Picking up the phone to have a heart-to-heart with Sheila Kelley, creator of the S-factor did something to me. Exchanging emails with Neale Donald Walsch and Marianne Williamson just made the world a smaller place. Instantly. After months of playing phone tag, Janet Attwood, co-author of The Passion Test, and I finally caught up for a conversation that left us both in tears.
When the people I'd always admired from a distance were now only 10 digits away, limitations flew off my life.
Keeping them off is another story.
I admit that applying the spiritual laws of success and empowering information is easier said than done when I look around my life and realize:
- the kids are fighting
- the laundry needs folding
- the floors need mopping
- the dishes need washing
- the door STILL needs fixing
- ...and...
*sniff* "What's that smell?" "Eeeeew! It's ME! I haven't had a bath yet, and it's 4:00 in the afternoon!" I don't mean to be graphic, Lizzie, but that's what life for a multitasking, self-employed, slightly over-ambitious, single mother is like some days. While the details may differ slightly, chances are good you can probably relate to what I'm saying.
No amount of universal laws are going to fold your laundry, mop your floors or pick up the kids from school, but understanding these laws will certainly make getting these things done a whole lot easier. As long as you're always stuck in the muck of a day's work, you risk neglecting your own needs to grow, learn, expand and improve conditions in your life! If you want life to improve, if you want things to get easier, you're going to need to roll up your sleeves and prioritize yourself more often.
If you don't prioritize yourself, who will?
In every moment, you have an opportunity to create the life you want. You may not always have the answers or the solutions, but they're out there. It's your task to put aside enough time and commit to studying, learning, and applying the information you need to make your life what you want it to be—what you know it can be.
It starts by putting yourself on the to do list. Starting on March 8, 2010 (International Women's Day) you'll be given the chance to put yourself on the to do list in a major way. 40 of the world's leading experts in health, fitness, food, sensuality and relationships will be coming together to be a part of WISH: Women's International Summit for Health.
40 of the world's most inspirational thought leaders have put their best information out there to support You and all women. For 10 days we'll be making these calls available for FREE to anyone who signs up.
Every day for 10 days we'll be focusing on a specific area of life; sensuality, money, relationships, family and health. There's no denying that when one area of your life is out of balance, everything else is affected by it.
WISH is giving you a remarkable opportunity for you to prioritize your health, your confidence and your life in a magnificent way. The laundry piles and dishes will still be there when WISH is over. But your chance to take part in this event, won't.
Join us in making this a most magnificent celebration of women there's ever been.
Love and girl-power, Tera |

From the Desk of the Diva
I'm sitting in the glow of a Christmas tree feeling like it's been far too long since I've taken a few moments to catch up with you. These little bursts of electronic intimacy are like the long, hot baths I never had when my children were under 5. I really must find a way to make them happen more often.
Here's a taste of what's been keeping me buzzing about in the background, besides Christmas dinners and shopping:
The Raw Mom Summit is back as a special gift to families over the holidays. Shannon and I felt it was the perfect time to get us all inspired about healthy living and ready to make resolutions for change in 2010. It's already started, but you can still access most of the calls for free by signing up here.
After about seven months of tweaking, revising, and rewriting our 6-Week Deep Tissue Detox, it is finally ready to roll. While a lot of what we do around here is good vibrations and a simple, inspiring message, sometimes cheerful words of encouragement are not enough. In order to really undestand what's going on in the body, we need to put a bit of science on the table. The Six Week Detox is raising the bar on the quality of health-related services available online and I'm honored to be a part of it. You can learn more about it and access our free toxicity test and telseminars here.
The 24-Day Countdown to Christmas is well underway, and thanks to the power of Green Smoothies, there will be a lot less indigestion and weight gain this year. If you're getting ready for the holiday dinners and haven't shopped for ingredients yet, I highly recommend you check out this compilation of healthy alternatives to conventional butter tarts and roasted bird. Dr. Ritamarie has been prolific lately with her recipe book production, but this one is my favorite, yet.
This issue of Health in High Heels has got some helpful beauty tips for your skin and a gem of an article on how to transition from a meat-based diet to a diet higher in raw fruits and veg. If you're moving from bacon to broccoli sprouts and looking for ideas, this article is for you! I'm leaving on Thursday to go back "home" for Christmas. Most of my family is in Alberta and I've not been home for Christmas in a very long time. I don't know what you've got planned for your holidays, Dear One, but I hope it involves lots of snuggles, slippers and moments spent in celebration with loved ones.

Garden Soup
Ingredients:
1 green onion
- 1 red pepper
- 1 cucumber
- 4 tomatoes
- garlic, to taste
- juice of 1 lemon
- dill, to taste
Directions:
Blend together ONLY half of all ingredients in high-speed blender. Chop or slice the other half, and stir all together with broth.
Sweet Potato Pudding
I was thinking I should steam some sweet potatoes for the kids, when I started to feel a bit defiant! “I’m not steaming anything!” I said to myself. I pulled out the grater, and started to…
…grate a big, fat sweet potato. Then, I put the grated sweet potato in my food processor. After which point, I added:
Ingredients:
1 dash of vanilla a sprinkle of cinnamon 2 Tablespoons coconut butter 1 big handful of raisins (or dates, if that’s what you have).
Directions:
Then I whipped and whizzed the ingredients together in my super Blendtec blender. It make a yummy, creamy sweet potato pudding and my daughter just loooved it! I played around with it and did layers of sweet potato pudding and sliced bananas. Then I decorated the top with raspberries, just for fun. The kids ate quite a lot of it and it was requested the next morning as a healthy way to start the day before school! Enjoy

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired?

Eat Your Greens for Healthier, Younger-Looking Skin
By Tracy Neely
Healthy skin starts with clean blood and requires strong and steady blood flow. Your blood circulation brings your skin cells nourishment, and clears away waste products that your skin cells are constantly generating.
Eating mostly fruits and vegetables is essential to experiencing strong and steady blood flow. The water, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients found in these highly nutritious foods all promote optimal blood circulation to your skin and throughout your body.
I know we’re all told to eat dark green leafy vegetables to have optimal health, and that is absolutely true, but here is something that I think is shocking, Americans on average eat over 200 pounds of meat per year, while the average person eats only 20 pounds of leafy green per year. It is well-known that an over consumption of meat intake can lead to increased cholesterol due to the high saturated fat content.
Here’s why I believe that leafy greens are vital to healthy skin. Leafy greens are in a class all their own when it comes to the water content and the nutrient density profile. Dark green leafy vegetables are calorie for calorie, perhaps the most concentrated source of nutrition of any food. They are a rich source of minerals (including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium) and vitamins, including vitamins A, C, E, K and many of the B vitamins and a small source of Omega-3 fatty acids. They also provide a variety of phytonutrients including beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect our cells from damage and our eyes from age-related problems, among many other effects.
Their high fiber content helps the body eliminate toxins and possible carcinogens, and the phytochemical quercetin has anticancer and antioxidant properties. Elimination is key to clear healthy skin. Beautiful, healthy skin is supported by eating different types of leafy green vegetables. Vitamin A minimizes the production of sebum, helping to limit acne. This nutrient also strengthens the skin's protective tissue and helps to flush out toxins. Vitamin E also protects skin cells from free radical damage.
A great way to get in a few servings of leafy greens per day is by drinking a green smoothie. Below is a recipe that I like to drink during this time of year. This smoothie will nourish your skin with vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants.
Cherry Smoothie Recipe
1 handful red kale (use whichever variety of kale you can find)
- 1 cup cherries (remove pit)
- 1 banana
- 1 cup water
Blend to a smooth consistency
Enjoy!

Wean Yourself Off Meat With These 10 Easy Tips to Stay Raw
by Linda Douglas, Ph.D., R.D.
Are you a transitioning raw food enthusiast or high raw eater? Do you ever find your best intentions of eating mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds going down the tubes because you crave more savory food? Have your raw resolutions sometimes burst into flame-broiled madness? If this sounds familiar, you may be interested in a few easy strategies to keep your actions and intentions grooving together.
We all know that we should keep fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds stocked at all times. However, just filling the fridge won’t get the food on the table or in the lunchbox. Try this easy approach to move your raw dreams into reality. The plan involves making yummy, mostly savory foods in advance of when you need them, keeping things simple and fresh, and having food with you at all times.
- When you first get your food home from the farmstand, co-op, or grocery store, wash and pre-prep your produce. This sets you up for quick, fresh meals at a moment’s notice.
- Over the weekend or when you have free time, make a nut or seed-based pate or two that you really love. This alone will keep you in yummy dips, salads, wraps, and sandwiches for the week. A great pate can even be thinned and blended as a soup base.
- Use collards, kale, and lettuce for those wraps and sandwiches. Dehydrating raw breads and crackers can be great. But fresh leafy greens are better nutrition-wise, especially if the filling is nut or avocado-based, and are important time savers. If you need something more substantial, go ahead and use a sprouted whole grain tortilla and wrap away!
- Likewise, use cucumbers, celery, carrots, and squash, etc. for dippers. Kids and adults are much more open to eating vegetables when they are fresh, crisp, and dipped. A whole grain cracker is also good option that will keep you high-raw.
- Discover raw soup. I have to say that raw soups have been the most delightful surprise and I have introduced raw food to several people through a delicious, nutritious soup! Soups can be nearly instant, keep for 2 to 3 days in the fridge, can be varied endlessly by chopped garnishes, and are very satisfying.
- Make enough of a tasty salad dressing to last for the week. Unless you are a black-belt raw foodist, dressing can make the difference between a gratifying salad meal and feeling deprived.
- In general, put a little more effort into the savory side of fresh, raw foods. Raw desserts tend to be easy. Fruit is delightful without any work at all, and smoothies are a cinch. But, a lot of the satisfaction in any cuisine, as a whole, comes from the main dishes.
- Use spices to jazz up your burgers, pates, soups, and salad dressings. A few dashes of curry or chili powder or other seasonings can completely transform a meal and keep you on the raw path. If you are into savory, this tip alone can keep you going.
- Dehydrated foods are the bells and whistles of a raw food diet, in my opinion. For the most part, stick to water-rich veggies, fruits, and non-dried pates and burgers. These options are fast, simple, and satisfying. If you want to use a dehydrator, plan to make those recipes when you have a lot of time and plenty of other food around. It’s no fun being hungry and smelling a dehydrating goodie that still has a few hours to go before you can eat it.
- Finally, pack all these good foods for your lunch and snacks! Fresh raw recipes are very portable and will last for about 4 hours without refrigeration. Add an ice pack or refrigerate and you can have food for a day with no worries. Never go anywhere without a good raw food option. Even if you grab a cucumber and some celery or an avocado while running out the door, don’t be unprepared, especially if you are transitioning.
Setting yourself up for success with a couple of easy recipes and a little pre-preparation will go a long way toward helping you live a raw or high-raw, healthy lifestyle. Just look for the simple options and get in the habit of having a little food with you at all times and flame-broiled madness will be a thing of the past.

Vol. 3, Issue 69, October 30, 2009
From the Desk of the Diva
I am busting at the seams while a fire-hydrant of love is blasting through me. To say I'm "overflowing" with affinity would be an understatement. If this all sounds a bit too esoteric for your taste, allow me to explain:
A few months ago I decided it was time to create an event for women that would touch the key issues we're all trying to address in an empowering and positive way (better sex, more money, hot-flash free menopause, successful relationships, etc.) . I wanted to do something that would inspire and support women everywhere to overcome their obstacles and lead healthier, happier, more fulfiled lives.
So, with the help of a friend, I did it!!
Something remarkable happens when you commit yourself and your life to helping others. It's an unadvertised bonus that you cannot blaze a trail without having to walk it first. You can't help others without helping yourself in the process. I cannot even begin to describe what my conversations with the speakers of this event over the last few weeks have been doing to me. We've called upon the best of the best to be a part of this. We've massaged the minds of masters to give you the most empowering wisdom for women the world has to offer.
And it's yours for the taking on November 30th. If there is one thing you should do for yourself before the new year approaches, sign up for W.I.S.H. (Women's International Summit for Health). It's free and the whole, wide world is invited. If it does for you a fraction of what it has done for me, prepare for some remarkable transformation.
In the spirit of wishes and women, this week's issue of Health in High Heels is loaded with beauty and kitchen secrets
Blowing you big ol' bliss bubbles,
Tera
P.S.
Oh sure, I suppose there's a small chance my elation could be related to my late night date and cacao nib habit or some strange variation of the infamous "swine flu virus", But my entire life, (the way I think, work, sleep, love) took a quantum leap forward this week. I know it will do the same for you, too, so be sure to join us for W.I.S.H..

Beauty Secrets Revealed - Part II
By Joanna L Steven
Since the previous beauty article was so well received, we interviewed even more raw food beauties to learn all about their beauty secrets!
Wendi Dee
The loving and radiant Wendi Dee was perfect for this article. After switching to a completely raw vegan diet, she really became as beautiful outside as she is inside. She enthusiastically agreed to share her secrets with us:
“What an honor to be asked by Joanna to share beauty secrets with the Raw Divas! Before eating a raw food diet, I never felt beautiful -- no matter what I put on my body. After my body healed on the raw food diet (releasing nearly 100 pounds), I finally understood that beauty truly does come from deep within. It radiates outward for everyone to see, regardless of beauty products we may, or may not, use.
There are some products I enjoy using, however, that accentuate the raw beauty I've uncovered within myself. The first is "Henna from Yemen" by Mehandi.com. I've used henna as a hair coloring for many years, since it is natural and has therapeutic benefits. Plus, the vibrant color it adds to my hair helps me show on the outside how I feel on the inside! Mehandi.com uses only pure henna, with no chemical additives (which can damage your hair and health). A quality henna is important.
A second product I use for beauty is a cotton washcloth. With a clean, cotton washcloth we can keep our skin clean and smooth. It works as good as any exfoliating product and costs a lot less! It stimulates bloodflow, removes the outer dead layers of skin that can cause a dull complexion, and doesn't require complicated instructions or scary warnings!”
*** Wendi Dee is an Inspirational Empath and raw food weight loss expert, sharing her journey to vibrant health and self love with thousands of others seeking their own paths to health and happiness on her PureJeevan.com website.
Shannon Shakaya Breeze Leone Raw Diva Shannon, also known as Shakaya Breeze, loved the first part of the article and was happy to give her more insight into her beauty routine. When asked what her favorite beauty products were, she replied: “I don't have any favourite beauty product per se because I make most of my own creams and cleansers from fresh fruits, oils, honey and yogurt (I have written a book with Angela Elliot all about this with lots of recipes for beautiful skin and hair treatments coming out soon called Get Naked and Wear Your Food).” As with her beauty products, Shakaya's beautifying concoctions can also easily be made in the kitchen, and she shares some of her recipes with us: “My favorite beautifiers are my fresh veggie juices: dark greens like kale/parsley/dandelion/spinach with cucumber and celery or my Famous Garden Cocktail which is a Blended Savory Smoothie of Spinach, tomato, celery, lemon, garlic, avocado with a habenero pepper and a pinch of Sea Salt. I also love Tonya Zavasta's face brush and roller and face exercises!”
***Shakaya empowers women to uphold their womanhood, and their men are forever grateful..."Whatever a woman does not have herself, she cannot give to her community, child or mate." You can learn more about her at www.rawmom.com or www.wishsummit.com.
Brigitte Mars
And last but not least, Brigitte Mars, the lovely Master herbalist with long silky hair and smooth, glowing skin, shared that: “Lately I have been enjoying Simply Divine Botanicals Rose Cream. Lovely! I think my husband wants to use it because it smells so good. (but he instead just gets real close to me).” Like many raw foodists, she also loved skin brushing, and gives us the details of her morning routine: “Every morning I wake up, gently brush my face. Then apply some fruit to it - grape, melon, apple pulp, strawberry (never mango as its in the Poison Ivy Family) for a live facial. After all, fruits are rich in naturally exfoiliating enzymes. I leave the fruit on for about five minute, then rinse and apply moisturizer. ” And she leaves us with beautiful words of wisdom: “One last comment is use color to enhance your beauty. Wear your Love like Heaven (is the title of a Donovan song, but also one of my mottos. ) Waer what looks best one you and you will feel great too! Color is energy. For more ideas, please check out my book, Beauty by Nature.”

Hydrating Skin Elixir for Radiant Skin
by Tracy Neely
There is something so refreshing about the smell of cucumbers, especially on a hot humid day here in Orlando. My motto is always, “healthy skin from the inside out” and cucumbers are at the top of my list for not only eating, but adding to skin care treatments. When I can find organic cucumbers, I take every opportunity to eat them, juice them or slice them up for my water. When choosing any type of cucumber, the darker the color (except for the Kirby) the better. A yellow color indicates old age. It is highly recommended to choose organic cucumbers that have not been waxed. The skin on the cucumber has so many nutrients and you wouldn’t want to ingest the wax as well as the chemicals trapped in the skin. If you aren’t able to find organic cucumbers, just peel before consuming. Because cucumbers provide a wonderful feeling to the skin, they have been used for centuries as a natural toner for the skin. Cucumbers are composed mostly of water, making it a must for glowing, hydrated skin. They are a good source of Vitamins A, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and folic acid. The skin of the cucumber is rich in fiber and a variety of minerals including silica, magnesium and potassium. The silica in cucumbers is an essential component of healthy connective tissue, which includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone. I often recommend cucumber juice to clients because the mineral silica improves the complexion and health of the skin. The ascorbic acid and caffeic acid in cucumbers prevent water retention, which may explain why cucumbers applied topically are often helpful for puffy eyes, burns and dermatitis. Paul Bragg, a health crusader pioneer wrote in an old issue of “Nature’s Path”, “There is nothing more nourishing for the skin than to have the liquid juice from the cucumber.” He noted that cucumber juice was very beneficial at cleansing the body. When you juice the entire cucumber, it will cleanse your body of old waste materials and chemicals.

Hydrating Skin Elixir Recipe
• One cucumber • One apple • One tbsp. lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best) • Two tbsp. aloe vera gel(remove from aloe leaf) *Purchase organic cucumber, apple and lemon if possible Combine all ingredients in a blender and enjoy! *** Tracy Neely is the founder and owner of Nourish & Flourish Healthy Living, a holistic nutrition and wellness consulting business located in Orlando Florida. Vol. 3, Issue 68, October 23, 2009
From the Desk of the Diva
In this week's issue:
It's snowing outside while I sit here plucking away and reflecting on another week in Divaland. Much of my heart and soul in the last few months has gone into creating W.I.S.H.: The Women's International Summit for Health. While there are still quite a few things to tweak and adjust on this site, I figure you're family, so take a peek and see what we're up to. You can sign up for it, but for juicy details on the content of the calls, we have secrets still to share, so stay tuned. It's been an extraordinarily empowering journey preparing for this event. People who once felt "out of reach" are now calling us up at home and sharing their very best wisdom and inspiration with us so we can share it with you. When you see the line-up of speakers we've gathered for this event, you'll agree that this summit is going to be unforgettable. Staring on November 30th, for 9 days, we'll be inviting you (and everyone else you know and love) to join us for the biggest empowerment party for women the world has ever seen. We'll cover everything from orgasms to organics, spirituality to spunky outfits. I get giddy just thinking about what this event is going to do for women, so I do hope you'll sign up and join us.
As Halloween approaches, watch out for those bowls of caramels and lollipops! Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so pace yourself! In order to give you some extra support throughout the holidays and help you gear up for the season of mashed potatoes and gravy, Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo and I will be offering a series of myth-busting teleseminars on the most common health conditions out there. We'll cover Candida, leaky gut, autoimmune disorders like psoriasis and excema. We'll discuss your colon, your cellulite and all in an attempt to gear you up for the release of our most complete rejuvenation program ever happening in January 2010. We'll put you on the list and send you details about our upcoming calls very soon! If you know anyone suffering from the above-mentioned conditions, please let them know about these calls! They will be life-changing.
This is your last chance to sign up for our Halloween Green Smoothie challenge starting on Monday. I'm also delighted to let you know that the winners of this summer's International Green Smoothie Day event were finally announced on the Green Smoothie Blog, so you can check that out. This week's issue of Health in High Heels is loaded with goodies that I trust you'll find helpful at the end of your busy week!

Top 3 Mistakes People Make When Cleansing!
Periodic deep cleansing is a desirable thing. You probably do it to your home, your car, even your pets. But chances are, you don’t even think about doing a periodic cleansing of your internal organs.
Throughout the ages, various forms of cleansing have been used to rest, heal and restore mental clarity. Water and juice fasting are among the most rigorous methods. A variety of potions and powders have been developed to cleanse the colon and the liver. The Master Cleanse is one of the more popular cleansing programs of our modern time. Many of these cleansing methods work well. All have advantages and disadvantages. None works perfectly for everyone.
- Give your digestive track a rest.
- Decrease the burden on your liver and gallbladder.
- Improve detoxification.
- Release extra weight, if necessary.
- Increase your energy, as less energy is spent on digestion.
- Reduce your cravings.
- Get you in control of your eating habits.

Benefits of Cleansing
There are so many cleansing programs to choose from, that it can be overwhelming to even get started. Once you get started, it can be even harder to complete.
Here are the 3 most common mistakes that prevent even the most well-intentioned cleanser from completing the program.
Mistake #1: Doing the cleanse all alone.
If your friends are all drinking beer and eating pizza, it’s hard to be the odd one out who’s drinking weird potions and talking about their bowel movements. It’s easy to feel discouraged and frustrated when no one else really understands what you’re doing or why you’re doing it. All too often when you set out to do a cleanse on your own, you get overwhelmed part of the way through and just don’t finish. Or you’re invited to dinner or a birthday party, and you postpone it for a “more convenient time”. The ideal way to do a cleanse is to get out of your own environment and go away to a spa or cleansing retreat, and just dedicate yourself to nothing but self care for a set period of time. But that’s not always practical or affordable.
SOLUTION: Find a mentor or join a cleansing support group, and do the cleanse with others who understand you and can support you through the process.
Mistake #2: Making it too complex
There are lots of different cleansing programs available. Just do a Google search and you’ll see just how many there are. The problem is, most of them are just too complicated and time consuming to do when you lead a busy life. There are all sorts of unusual powders, potions and supplements to take at all different times of the day. Then there are the enemas, mud packs, and all the extra procedures you need to do too. Don’t get me wrong, these procedures are highly effective, and the cleanses that include them do give great results. It’s just that your life is already too busy and complicated. And when the process is too complex, you’re more likely to give up part of the way through, before you’ve fully reaped the benefits. SOLUTION: Choose a cleansing program that’s quick and easy to do –one that saves you time rather that requiring more of it and that fits your schedule rather than you having to totally adjust yours.
Mistake #3: Feeling like you have to starve yourself to really be cleansing
It’s hard to focus at work when you’re blood sugar is low and you have no energy. Some cleanses are so restrictive, that you feel hungry all the time. Water fasting is a great way to cleanse, but it’s hard to lead a busy life and focus on complicated work tasks when you haven’t eaten in days. Water fasting is best left for the “go away and cleanse” programs we talked about earlier, and really should be supervised because it can lead to electrolyte imbalances.
Juice cleanses can also leave you feeling hungry and light headed all the time, and are hard for most people to do for more than a few days. Besides, the quantity of juice required takes a lot of time to make and clean up after. It’s easy to give up when the cleansing process leaves you exhausted and hungry.
SOLUTION: If you need to work and maintain your busy life while cleansing, it’s important that you do a program that’s loaded with nutritionally dense, easy to digest, whole fresh foods, so that you feel energetic rather than hungry all the time. The change of seasons is a great time to do a cleanse. The holidiay season is coming. First the Halloween candies, then Thanksgiving, Christmas dinners and office parties. While you may not be able to resist all the treats that cross your path, I can guarantee you'll start off the new year right by signing up for our 6-Week Deep Tissue Detox.
As a result of over 20 years of experimentation and trying just about every type of cleanse out there, from water fasting to potions, powders and enemas, I’ve learned what works and what doesn't. To learn more about the right kind of cleanses to do for conditions like candida, irritable bowel, crohns, etc., sign up to attend our free series of teleseminars taking place throughout November.
One thing is certain, no matter where you are or how healthy you'd like to be, it all starts with education and informing yourself.

Strength Training isn't Just For Bodybuilders!
by Jenn Givler
When you hear “strength training” what does it make you think of? I
t’s easy to overlook strength training, and feel like we don’t really need it to be healthy. But, the truth is, cardio alone will not help you build a beautiful, strong body.
The benefits of strength or resistance training include:
1. Increasing your lean muscle mass actually increases your metabolism, meaning you burn more calories while working out AND while doing nothing. This means its easier to release weight and excess body fat.
2. Your heart becomes more efficient, which means you’ll have a lower heart rate.
3. Bone density increases giving you stronger bones and reducing your risk of osteoporosis.
4. Tendons and ligaments also become stronger reducing your risk of injury.
5. Strength! You get stronger, you feel better, you feel energized and confident, daily and household tasks become easier.
Resistance training doesn’t have to be done in a gym, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. To add tone to your muscles, you can use light weights (3 to 5 lbs.) or, your own body resistance.
Try this simple routine:
1. Bicep curl and Squat: Stand with feet shoulder width apart, arms straight down in front of your legs. Grip weights, palms face out. Bend at the knees keeping your back straight, as if you’re going to sit in a chair. As you bend at your knees, bend your elbows lifting the weights toward your shoulders. Bend knees about 90 degrees, hands should reach your shoulders. Straighten knees, bring hands back down to starting position. Do 12 to 15 repetitions, 3 sets.
2. Rowing Plie: Stand with feet shoulder width apart, feet slightly turned out. Hold weights, palms face toward you, arms straight. As you bend your knees, keep your back straight, pelvis tilted forward. Bend your elbows bringing the weight up to chest level. Return to standing position, lowering weight. 12 to 15 reps, 3 sets.
3. Lunging shoulder press:
Stand feet together, holding weights at shoulder level palms face in toward your ears. Step one foot out in front of you about 12 inches. Bend at your knees as you raise the weights over your head. Straighten knees, lower weights back to shoulder level. 12 to 15 reps, 3 sets, each leg.
The goal is to spend quality time under tension, not to strain yourself. If you feel strained doing any of these exercises, use lighter weights.
To build muscle, you need to rest just as much as you need the exercise. Your muscles actually get stronger during the recovery. Make sure you leave at least 48 hours between resistance training sessions to allow your muscles to recover.
Doing this routine consistently, and even adding or changing the exercises to your own personal taste, you’ll see results within 2 to 3 weeks.
